Description

Distaff handmade from old Christmas trees, reformed by hand in Marseille by Léa Laborie. Distaff are tools used to maintain the wool reserve while spinning by hand and allow you to walk while spinning, they are called “field cattails”. Available in two sizes, the large models feature a walnut tray to hold the branches in place, while the small model does not.
Léa has a degree in carpentry and has been working with wood since 2015 in her workshop in Marseille. She trained in organ building in Alsace, then turned to creating objects for the home such as spoons and cutting boards. Working in tandem with her brother, a tree pruner, she regularly recovers local wood scraps and transforms them into artistic pieces.
As each tree is unique, the shapes and number of branches may vary from the photograph.
