Description

In the past, in every village, people spun wool, wove straw and wicker, mended clothes, beat butter... These domestic skills have been handed down from generation to generation, with a love of fine craftsmanship. This book allows us to rediscover these forgotten techniques. It presents a small collection of ten rural objects emblematic of folk art, enabling us to learn about their history, reconnect with their gestures and awaken the desire to make.
A return to the source: the material, the hand and the tool. Knowledge and know-how.

Harvest bouquet, vinegar pot, candle, wicker basket, banneton, embroidery scissors, lavender spindle, beehive, distaff and spindle... Emma Bruschi brings these ancient objects back to life by redeploying their technicality, but also by breaking down the gesture of the hand that uses, shapes or decorates them. Step-by-step instructions on how to make vinegar, churn butter, darn socks, build beehives, weave straw or lavender, spin wool... An invitation to reappropriate these forgotten gestures.
